IMPORTANT FEDERAL TAX NOTICE

The IRS has revised the federal withholding tables due to the recently signed stimulus bill.

Most employees will notice a reduction in the amount of federal income tax withheld on their paychecks as a result of these changes. The tax rates did not change but the amount of income applied at the various tax rates did. This means that a larger amount of income will be subject to the 10% rate, a larger amount of income will be subject to the 15% rate, and so on. These tables are in effect for the remainder of 2009.

Here is the IRS link to the new 2009 tax tables: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/n1036.pdf
***Caution: This is a 97 Page Document; e.g. you may print pages 1, 2, and 3

Employees are responsible for monitoring the amount of income tax being withheld from their paychecks. If an employee determines that more federal tax withholding is necessary, please complete an electronic Form W-4 through the Employee Self-Service section of OneStart.

Tax Updates:

We’ve created a new web page so customers can monitor the status of the tax forms they are expecting to receive on their own without having to email or call an IU office to find why they haven’t received it yet. The next time a customer asks the question, “when…” you can share this URL with them. We will provide this service each year so they can learn to expect the most current information at this location.

Get your 2008 W-2 Online

Employees of Indiana University can choose to receive their W-2 Wage and Tax Statement through an online delivery instead of the U.S. mail. This method allows for faster delivery of the W-2 than the traditional distribution method by U.S. mail.

Employees can sign up for electronic W-2 using www.w2express.com (January 10, 2009). If they do not sign up prior to that date they will receive a paper W-2 for 2008.

Instructions on how to sign up or access your W-2 electronically can be found at www.fms.indiana.edu/tax/w2/w2express.asp

Employees who have opted for online delivery will be notified by e-mail when W-2 forms are posted to the secure web site. With the online delivery option, employees may retrieve their W-2 any time of day, 7 days a week, or they may request duplicate or corrected W-2s. The electronic W-2 form also may be downloaded for use in several tax preparation software programs.

Please send any questions about this service to iuw2@indiana.edu or call (812) 855-0375.
